Redheads, when you are pursuing your big dream, help comes from the places you least expect
it. This past month has been a month of
miracles for me.
The first, was when I was able to scrape together the money
to get the oil changed in my car. Now, my
mechanic has done every oil change and major repair on my car since I bought it
brand new in 2000. I have the deepest
respect for him because he is a man of honor. He is a Carolina boy, a true
southern gentleman. All his female clients love him because he treats them like
favorite nieces, and sisters. He has
never done a repair on my car that was not completely necessary. And even then, he has researched prices from
various vendors before he quotes the job.
I trust him to say the least, so when he came out of the garage and said
that I needed new front brakes, I knew he wasn’t kidding. I didn’t have the money for those brakes, but
he insisted that he do the repair. He
said it was a serious safety hazard. His exact words were, “Tammy, those brakes
won’t last a week and no tellin’ when
they’ll go out.” His next words were, “I
know you’re doing the best you can, so you can pay me when you have the
money.”
I was humbled to the point of tears.. This man trusts me. He’s willing to help me
at a sacrifice to himself.
Next miracle, was a
card from my mom with a check tucked
inside with a note saying she wished she could do more. That check was the
difference between my salary and my bills this month. I hate taking money from
my parents. My feeling is that I’m an adult I should be sending them money to
ease their burdens. Mind you, my parents are not destitute, but they worked
hard for the money they saved and now that they are retired, they should have
the chance to enjoy the fruit of their labor.
The miracles keep coming, Next is a new friend of mine named
Helen. We met several months ago in a
coaching circle we are both part of. She was my coach at the time and lives in
CA so we have only ever talked on the phone. At one point we were discussing my
business ideas and she suggested printing fliers. I had to admit that at that
time I didn’t even have the money to buy
ink for my printer. Several days later,
this woman who has never laid eyes on me sent me $20 for ink. Really??? A stranger believes in me and my
dream!!! You have no idea how empowering
that is.
Since then, we were paired again in the circle and we have
become great friends. She cheers for me and offers support. We share views,
coaching techniques, trials and laughs.
She is so positive, even in the midst of her own challenges on her way
to her own big dream. That $20 she sent
me for ink now prints out handouts for a seminar series, I wrote and facilitate
at the church where I hang out. (Yeah,
that’s another miracle)
Then the most recent miracle is that marketing efforts are
beginning to pay off. Just a trickle but…
It’s validating never the less.
